April 2022: Salmones Camanchaca has published its first Integrated Annual Report

April 26, 2022
This document brings together information on the company's economic, social, environmental and governance performance, which is consistent with the integrated role that sustainability should have within company strategy.

Salmones Camanchaca has published its first Integrated Report that describes the company’s economic, social, environmental and governance performance in a single document, as have many large companies worldwide, and which follows guidelines issued by the Financial Market Commission (CMF),

The company had been preparing sustainability reports based on the GRI standard since 2014 and began publishing Annual Financial Reports in 2017, after being listed on the Santiago Stock Exchange. These two publications were officially merged in 2022, to provide an integrated overview of the company that is consistent with placing sustainability at the core of its entire business.

This was confirmed by Manuel Arriagada, Chief Executive Officer at Salmones Camanchaca, who emphasized that “this is a natural step that confirms the role of sustainability within the long-term development of our business. We have a Sustainability Model that clearly indicates the issues we must tackle as a company based on five specific pillars, and this model is the roadmap for Salmones Camanchaca’s strategy, which gives meaning to our work. From now on, the Integrated Report will describe our progress in a detailed and transparent manner”.

Thus, the new document will describe financial information for the period and the company’s sustainability performance for the entire year.

Highlights for the year

The 2021 Integrated Report also describes the main milestones for the period at Salmones Camanchaca. The company’s inclusion in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index for both the MILA Pacific Alliance and Chile indices was a high point of the year and a clear recognition of its sustainability strategy. The company was also ranked 20th in the global Coller Fairr index, which measures the sustainability of the 60 largest food companies in the world that report their results, and it was included in the top 100 companies listed on the Oslo stock exchange that report their sustainability performance.

Another milestone was completing a capital increase in October, which raised US$ 23 million, and subsequently signing a “Sustainability-Linked Loan” that totaled US$ 135 million to reschedule the company’s debt and secure an additional financial cushion for the next 5 years, based on a commitment that links the interest rate to specific sustainability metrics.

A new format of antibiotic-free farmed Coho salmon frozen portions was introduced to the U.S. market under the Pier 33 Gourmet brand during 2021. Salmones Camanchaca signed a Clean Production Agreement called the “Climate Change and Circular Economy Strategy for the Salmon Sector in the Los Lagos and Aysén Regions”, which measures environmental impacts, reduces energy consumption and GHG emissions, and improves waste management based on a circular economy. The company was certified as an Authorized Economic Operator by the General Directorate of Customs in December, and at the moment it is the only company in the industry with this certification.

The company implemented a Code of Conduct for Suppliers during 2021, which describes the requirements and practices expected of suppliers regarding ethics, human and labor rights, health and safety, the environment and local communities. It has now been applied to its entire business. Finally, Salmones Camanchaca took advantage of Starlink’s launch in Chile by installing six antennas to improve connectivity at farming sites using the SpaceX high-speed satellite internet service.
