It is with deep sorrow that Camanchaca announces the unfortunate death of Mr. Jorge Fernández Valdés, founder of the Company and main shareholder, who has passed away at the age of 86.

Mr. Fernandez joined the fishing sector in 1967. However, he consolidated his interest in this business in 1980, when he acquired all the shares of Compañía Pesquera Camanchaca and invited his friend and lawyer Francisco Cifuentes Correa to join him, who soon became his partner with a 23% interest in the company.

During his working life he always greatly valued dedication, which merged with his entrepreneurial spirit to motivate him to tackle risks and huge challenges, including venturing into the incipient salmon business in 1987.

His creative talent, his ability to forge teams, his perseverance even in the face of adversity, his incomparable leadership, simplicity and familiarity, all led to exponential growth at Camanchaca, so the company listed 31.5% of its shares on the Santiago Stock Exchange in 2010.

The next step took place in 2018 when its subsidiary Salmones Camanchaca was listed on the Santiago and Oslo Stock Exchanges while salmon prices were high, which made it the first Chilean company to be listed on the Norwegian stock market.

He resigned from his position as Chairman of Camanchaca in the middle of 2018, which brought to an end his long and fruitful career as a businessman in the marine protein market, and his eldest son, Jorge Fernández García, took his place.

Ricardo García Holtz, Camanchaca’s CEO, said that “Those of us who knew Mr. Fernandez can testify that he was a great man characterized by his tenacity, vision and integrity. He was an entrepreneur who knew how to tackle risks and challenges, and how to inspire confidence in everyone who worked for him. We embrace the Fernández García family at this painful time”.
