January , 2021: Salmones Camanchaca and Naviera Orca Chile sign long-term contract for state-of-the-art wellboat

February 9, 2021
Salmones Camanchaca signed a contract with Naviera Orca Chile that is aligned with its sustainability strategy, in particular its commitment to fish care, innocuity and welfare. This contract covers the exclusive use of a new Norwegian-designed vessel that uses state-of-the-art technology to transport live fish. It is being built by the Larsnes Mek Verksted shipyard and it will arrive in Chile at the end of 2021 when it will immediately be put into service. The CEO of Salmones Camanchaca, Manuel Arriagada, believes that its characteristics make it very appropriate for the Chilean fishing industry, given its environmental and economic challenges. These characteristics include its large capacity, its ability to transport open or enclosed, and its ability to perform non-pharmacological anti-parasitic treatments in a closed environment. Mr. Arriagada said, "The objective of using such a vessel equipped with state-of-the-art technology is to transport fish during harvesting periods and perform anti-parasitic treatments, which is aligned with our business strategy. We will become more competitive, while complying with strict environmental standards." The vessel can transport over 400 tons of live salmon, and the capacity of its hold is 2,800 m3, which exceeds the average of 1,000 m3 within other Chilean vessels. It will also use zero emission equipment during enclosed transport with water monitoring and purification, an RSW cooling system, and fresh water production and treatment. Salmones Camanchaca invited tenders from the principal Chilean and Norwegian ship-building companies, and the contract was finally awarded to Naviera Orca Chile, given the particularities of the vessel, which will be the ninth of its kind in the world. This modern vessel is 79.3 meters long, 15 meters wide, and will be the first of its kind in Chile. It has also performed successfully in Norway since 2014, with each successive version incorporating improvements. Mr. Alliende, CEO of Naviera Orca Chile explained, "This vessel is the result of many years' work. We are convinced that it will prove to be an excellent vessel in its service to Chile's salmon industry. We began construction in June 2020 and that very important decision was confirmed when we were awarded this contract. We are very pleased and and are now fully committed to Camanchaca, as they believed in our proposal." Naviera Orca Chile is an excellent maritime transportation company that develops the logistics to transport live fish using the best global technology. It provides a service that meets the most rigorous animal sanitary and welfare standards for the transport of live fish based on the characteristics of its vessels and equipment, its profound understanding of salmon production, and its commitment to use the best technology in the world.
