This certificate was also granted for electricity supplied to Cultivos Sur of 2,508 MWh, Pesca Sur of 4,749 MWh, Camanchaca S.A. of 4,160 MWh, which together with Salmones Camanchaca S.A. totals 18,903 MWh.
This certificate was verified by EY Chile, who issued an independent validation report covering the 7,540 MWh supplied during 2020 from renewable sources. Colbún granted Salmones Camanchaca S.A. a Renewable Energy Balance Certificate for the 7,540 MWh of electricity that it had consumed between July 1 and December 31, 2020.
This certificate formed part of the energy supply contract that Colbún signed in July 2020 with Salmones Camanchaca to supply it with electricity to operate its business.
The data collected for this certificate was verified by EY Chile, as described in its independent validation report issued on April 30.
The CEO of Camanchaca S.A., Ricardo García, stated that “Our strategic plan involves reducing the CO2 emitted by our business and we have a roadmap that decisively drives us towards becoming a carbon neutral company. This certificate demonstrates that we can successfully manage these changes and is a testament to our progress in environmental stewardship.”
A total of 62 companies received Renewable Energy Certificates. The electricity supplied to these companies totaled almost 972 GWh in 2020, which avoided emitting 372,000 tons of CO2 this year. Avoiding the emission of 372,000 tons of CO2 is the equivalent of taking 93,000 cars off the road for a year, which represents a little more than a third of all new cars sold throughout Chile last year.
Salmones Camanchaca S.A. is a vertically integrated salmon producer engaged in egg and breeder production, recirculating hatcheries, fish-farming centers in estuary and oceanic waters, primary and secondary processing, and marketing and selling.
