October 2020: Pincoy Project launches best practice manual

November 5, 2020
A manual of best practice for the salmon industry was presented at a webinar open to all. This collaborative initiative involved AquaGen, Blumar, Camanchaca, Centrovet, Cermaq, Pharmaq and Skretting.

The Pincoy project aims to reduce antibiotics within the salmon farming industry by implementing strict animal welfare and operational excellence standards throughout the production chain. It held a webinar to publicize a best practice manual for the Chilean industry. The document aims to present best practices that apply to the entire salmon production cycle, from the egg through to fish at marine grow-out sites, in order to continue improving fish welfare standards.
Alexander Jaramillo is the Pincoy Project Coordinator and remarked, “This best practice manual has been a tremendous collaborative achievement to provide the industry with the experience and know-how of a team comprised of the highest quality professionals from the seven companies involved in the Pincoy Project. This manual will be available to the entire salmon industry, and we hope that it will also guide educational and research institutions and any members of the general public that are interested in developing salmon farming in a responsible and sustainable manner.”
The event addressed animal welfare issues and production trends in the global salmon industry. The webinar featured talks by two international speakers: Dag Sletmo, Senior Vice President DNB and Wenche Grønbrekk, Cermaq Group & Senior UN Consultant. It also involved Ronald Barlow, CEO at Skretting Chile and Pedro Pablo Laporte, CEO at Salmones Blumar.
